Meet The Team

Adam Hallal
Computer Science and Data Science major at UC Berkeley.
Roles involved:
-
About page: Responsible for providing full technical descriptions of the three levels of the DH project: assets, services, and interface. Moreover, the introduction and conclusion of the about page and the project.
-
Website: Finalizing and implementing the website.

Khadija Arslan
Data Science and Economics major at UC Berkeley. Roles involved
-
Data Cleaning: Ensured the dataset was accurate and consistent by removing null values and correcting inconsistencies.
-
Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA): Conducted initial data exploration to identify key patterns and insights.
-
Narrative (Visualizations): Ceated and annotated visualizations to highlight trends and disparities in cancer rates.
-
About page: Contributed by explaining why this dataset was looked at and explained the various complications faced.
-
Data Critique: Developed a thorough critique of the dataset, discussing its strengths, limitations, and ideological implications.

Sanah Aulakh
Media Studies major with a concentration in Digital Studies at UC Berkeley. Roles involved:
-
Questions and Hypotheses: Built on the initial questions and hypotheses from the storyboard, from two to nine questions.
-
Storyboard: Created the Canva and organized all of the data for the storyboard. Created the image for the storyboard "About Page".
-
Annotated Bibliography: Annotated two of the articles that were used to help construct the questions and hypotheses framework.
-
Website: Created the wireframe for the website and inputted the data.

Diego Huezo
Data Science Major at UC Berkeley. Roles involved:
-
Digital Humanities: Tied project’s scientific findings to its intersectional context.

Yu Xue
Data Science and Molecular Cell Biology major at UC Berkeley. Roles involved:
-
Data analysis: Contributed to the interpretation of the data, analyzing its patterns, similarities and differences between different social groups and how those differences are related to humanity issues.
-
Built a timeline that illustrates how this issue as well as challenges and disparities has evolved over time. Connecting technologies to humanity to understand the underlying reasons behind the changes.
-
Storyboard: Sort out the timeline of how disparities related to cancer have changed overtime, and major events in cancer studies in the past century.

Christina Jiang
Geography and Conservation Resources Studies major at UC Berkeley. Roles involved:
-
Methodology: Analyzed the methodology mentioned in the class and related reading material to provide background and support the analysis of cancer differences.
-
Website and data visualization framework: Outline to present our findings through different maps and illustrate geographic differences in cancer incidence.

Alana Yang
Data Science and Molecular & Cell Biology major at UC Berkeley. Roles involved:
-
Map of methodology: Connected the theories learned in class with the narrative, aiming to be told through visualizations and research. Wrote the reasoning for why the critical race theory and intersectionality theory lens was used to approach this topic.
-
Questions and hypotheses: Created the initial questions and hypotheses to help guide the project.
